Rheology &

Dispersing Agents

At HeiQ ChemTex, we understand that a great product isn’t just about the active ingredients, but about how those ingredients behave. Getting solids to stay suspended, achieving the perfect consistency and making sure your formula applies smoothly are the unsung heroes of manufacturing. That’s where our specialty chemicals come in. Our dispersing agents and rheology modifiers are the behind-the-scenes players that bring stability, control and superior performance to your formulations in the industrial, carpet, textile and paper industries.

Dispersing Agents

Imagine trying to keep fine sand evenly mixed in a glass of water. Without help, it would all sink straight to the bottom. In industrial terms, that sand is a pigment, a filler or a functional solid and the water is your liquid base. Dispersing agents are the chemical workhorses that prevent this from happening.

They work by coating individual solid particles, reducing the natural attraction they have for each other. This allows them to separate and remain evenly distributed throughout the liquid medium. The result? A product that stays uniform from the first drum to the last, with no settling, no clogging and no wasted material.

For our clients, this means:

  • Consistent Color: Pigments stay suspended in dye baths and coatings, preventing streaking or shade variation.
  • Improved Performance: Functional particles, like antimicrobials or flame retardants, are evenly distributed for uniform effectiveness.
  • Reduced Waste: You won’t lose valuable product to the bottom of a tank or vat.

Rheology Modifiers

Rheology is the science of how things flow. A product that’s too thin might run off a vertical surface, while one that’s too thick could be impossible to pump or spread evenly. Rheology modifiers give you the power to control that flow perfectly. These additives influence the viscosity and rheological profile of your formulations, allowing you to design the exact character you need, whether it be a free-flowing liquid, a creamy paste or a gel that stays put.

Thickeners

Thickeners are a specific, vital class of rheology modifier. Their primary job is to increase viscosity, giving a liquid more body. But a good thickener does more than just make a product “thick.”

It can:

  • Provide suspension power, working alongside dispersing agents to keep solids in place.
  • Impart anti-sag properties, allowing coatings to be applied to vertical surfaces without dripping.
  • Create a luxurious, creamy feel in lotions, pastes and finishes.
  • Improve water retention, which is especially valuable in aqueous systems like latex-based carpet backing.

We offer a range of thickening solutions to match the specific demands of your system, its pH and its final application.

Sodium Polyacrylate

Sodium polyacrylate is a fascinating and highly effective polymer that functions as both a phenomenal thickener and a dispersant. It’s known for its incredible ability to absorb and retain huge volumes of water, rapidly transforming a liquid into a gel. This unique property makes it incredibly valuable in scenarios where controlling water is a priority.

In our world, its applications are diverse:

  • Textile Printing: It thickens dye pastes, allowing for sharp, clear prints without bleeding or running.
  • Water Retention: In paper coatings or agricultural formulations, it helps keep things moist for longer periods.
  • Dispersion: It helps keep inorganic particles, like clays or minerals, well-separated and stable in suspension.
